You’ve decided to move. You’ve also decided you’d rather not take the task on by yourself. But, how do you find the right mover?
You have a lot of options, and sorting them out can be confusing. Here are a few tips I recommend as you consider which moving company to use. (Full disclosure: although we here at Ernie’s Van & Storage would like to be your ultimate choice, we offer this advice regardless—we want you to make your best move, with or without us.)
1. I have found, for anything I buy, a referral from a friend or family member is usually my best option.
After all, those I know and trust are most likely to give it to me straight. I don’t know if your friends or family members have moved with Ernie’s before. But, I can let you speak with some of our customers and you can ask them questions for yourself. Let me know, and I’ll put you in touch.
2. A word of caution: some movers are less than reputable. The moving and storage industry polices itself through industry associations. But it’s impossible to keep tabs on all the many different companies, especially fly-by-night movers. To help consumers avoid becoming the victim of rogue operators, the American Moving & Storage Association certifies trustworthy moving companies with the ProMover credential. This symbol is an assurance that a mover can be trusted for fair and ethical business practices. Ernie’s has earned this credential and we display it on our website.
3. Before you select a mover, you should have their representative come to your home to see everything you want to move. This is the only way to get a truly accurate estimate of your moving cost. Beware of companies that claim they can give you an accurate price for their service over the phone. Their price will likely be too high, or, they may “low-ball” a price and surprise you with additional charges once they start work. Sadly, it happens all too often.
If you are moving into northern California area, especially in the communities around Grass Valley and Rocklin, consider using Ernie’s Van & Storage. A good way to get started is with a ball-park pricing estimate. You can click here for that. Or give us a call to set up an in-home estimate for a precise cost. There is no charge for this service.
