School Is out, Moving Is In!

It makes perfect sense. Families prefer to move when school is not in session—it’s easier for kids to make a transition. (In Rocklin, schools dismiss on June 8 this year and go back in session on August 16. In Grass Valley, the last day of school is June 9, and class resumes on August 17.) The school calendar has a significant impact on the moving industry. It creates a high demand for moving services during a single three-month span every year. Our movers and packers here at Ernie’s Van & Storage are accustomed to this surge, and we flex to meet it for families moving to or from Rocklin and Grass Valley and surrounding communities.

Winter Moving Checklist

Grass Valley gets about 54 inches of rain a year and as much as a foot or more of snow. Rocklin is not quite as wet—only 32 inches of annual rainfall and just a dusting of snow. But for both locations, about 80 percent of the annual precipitation falls between November and March, with December and January being the wettest months. So, if you move during the wintertime, there’s a fair chance you may have to deal with some rain or snow. Use our moving company's Winter Moving Checklist to keep your belongings safe during transit.

Good Packing Begins with Good Packing Materials

You can purchase packing materials in lots of places—big box stores, office supply stores, even your local big pharmacy carries some. However, be advised that the materials you find on popular retail shelves can vary in quality and price. And there are many to choose from. Which are the right ones for your move? Here are a few of the essential materials you will want to have on hand to “pack like a pro.”

Moving Checklist

Getting organized seems to be easier for some folks than it is for others. (Sometimes I have difficulty just remembering where I laid my car keys.) So, I have created a checklist—something to help those of us who are organizationally challenged stay on track in the days before the move. I call it... (drum roll, please)...

Up next: Finals, then Moving Out

The time is upon us again for final papers, projects, exams and moving out of your college dorm or apartment. All of these things are stressful, but moving out doesn't have to be. With a few simple steps your move at the end of the semester will be the least of your worries, giving you more time to focus on your studies and having one last celebration with friends.
