Granite Bay History

Formerly a small mining camp known as Granite Bar, Granite Bay has a rich mining history that began in the early 1850’s. Cattle ranchers also took advantage of availability of water and grassy slopes. In the 1980’s, the area had expanded so much that residents no longer felt they should be considered in nearby town of Roseville. Residents of the area felt the goal and lifestyle of Roseville was not consistent with their own and placed a proposition before the County Board of Supervisors to be recognized as the unincorporated community of Granite Bay.
