49er's panning for gold in "Mother Lode" country.
Naggiar Vineyards is a destination winery in Grass Valley, CA.
Ernie's Van & Storage has been based in Northern California for over 78 years. We are headquartered in Grass Valley, CA and over the years have become the most trusted moving company in California's Gold Country. The area has rich history and deep roots dating back to the 1849 Gold Rush when waves of immigrants, known as 49ers, flocked to the region in hopes of exploiting its famed mineral deposits and gold mines. To this day; remnants of glory past can be found scattered all across the landscape in the form of old foundations, boarded up mine-shafts, rusted machinery, tailings and legends of lost mines littered with gold.
Today, another "rush" of sorts in taking place in the region. Wine. Winemaking in the Sierra Nevada Foothills with actually a bi-product of the 1849 Gold Rush as the miners, predominantly European, planted grapevines. As the gold began to dwindle, many of them turned to winemaking. A far more prominent wine region than Napa or Sonoma at the time; the Sierra Nevada Foothills boasted over 100 wineries by the 1870's. Unfortunately, Prohibition extinguished this frontier wine community which did not revive until the 1970's, when a new generation of vintner's flocked to the region. The heart of the Sierra Nevada Gold Country wine growing region is comprised of Nevada County, Placer County, and El Dorado County. Together, they are home to over 50 wineries.
